funders vs genral WHY IT SUCKS!

.05% is what makes up the number of people who decide the candidates for the general public to vote on for president in the election. When does the general public get to vote? After the funders decide who they want to run for president! let's just say America isn't as much of a "government for the people by the people". if only .05% of people really get to decide who the president could potentially be is it really a fair democracy that allows everyone the same and equal oppertunity. the funders essentially set a baseline that only provides the general public the options they set. this is because of money and it is a corrupt dependence upon money and if the founders give enough money to the person the wants to run for president then that few people are able to decide a baseline for the rest of the people. we can fix this system by giving the power of the funders to the people and allow the people as a whole to set a baseline for the end vote instead of the power being sent to the rich and the wealthy. spreading out the power of the funders will also help create a government that works for the left and the right.

  1. Ryan, your ideas and emotion in your post are good. Developing them a little more and polishing the writing would be a good idea. Remember that your audience hasn't watched the TED Talk that you have, so referencing and describing it a bit more specifically would be a good idea. Don't forget to cite your sources.

  2. This is a thought-provoking blog. I can "feel"l that it's a topic that you are passionate about. I do think it would be a good idea to explain a little more about who funders are and how the go about funding a chosen few to run for leadership in our government. I would agree, that money does seem to talk and, in this case, it's limiting true democracy. Unfortunately, everything takes money and I wonder how "ordinary" citizens would be able to secure the money necessary to run for office, if they did not have the backing of funders. I agree that it just doesn't seem "right" or democratic.

  3. This was a super interesting post! I liked how you went into detail about how the general public only has so much control over who they get to vote for.

  4. How do you think spreading the power of the vote would work? Do you think it would be an easy transition of power, having people who have always had and asking them to give it up won't be easy.

  5. wow I didn't know that funders set a baseline, I just assumed they had to reach a cutoff of some kind, but I didn't realize that cutoff was just the funders picking and choosing.
